Work in our office for Rails Rumble 2008
Rails Rumble 2008 takes place the weekend of October 18th and 19th. We’re happy to sponsor the Rails Rumble Championship Belt for the second year in a row (see last year’s belt).
We’re also offering up our entire office for use that weekend by any Rails Rumble teams in the Boston area who want a group space to collaborate and work in. For more information (including some pictures of our...

Phusion Passenger with a prefix
The Mongrel Web server can run with a URL prefix, using the —prefix option. This is useful for running an app in a “subdirectory”—say BankDirectr at http://banks.info/directr and BankRobbr at http://banks.info/robbr .
In development you want that same prefix; this way your stylesheets, images, and other static assets show correctly at the right URL. For this we had originally...
The community's hopping all over Hoptoad
Just to let everyone know, I’m expecting that we’ll get tired of the toad puns in about 3 more months. So just hold on till then.

Thanksgiving already?
Hard to imagine that 2008 is already wrapping up, but look at all the places thoughtbot will be for the rest of it…

Thankfully, we’ve found a great designer, and he’s going to be starting at the end of next week. So, the time has come to turn our attention back to hiring more excellent developers.
The ideal...

Ruby wrapper for Twitter Search API
Twitter Search (formerly Summize) is sweet. I use it every day to find first-person commentary on thoughtbot’s work, Boston sports, national politics, and anything else that catches my fancy.
The Twitter Search API is also sweet. I wanted to use it a while back for Politweets. In combination with a simple cron job, the effect is commentary on the U.S. Presidential Election from around the...
Umbrella Today launches
Today we officially launched Umbrella Today - the “simplest weather report ever”. Enter your zip code and then your cell phone number to get a text message on days that you should bring an umbrella with you — it’s as simple as that.
The actual deploy to production occurred live during our talk at the Lone Star Ruby Conference as part of a training session. More...
