We’ve been offering a video version of The Playbook for some time, and now we’re happy to announce the evolution of that concept, the new Playbook Workshop.
This workshop is the real-time, expanded version of The Playbook. We’ll start with the video lessons and then work together on practical examples and your own real ideas. We will go through an example of building an actual application and we’ll explore all of the pieces of the web design and development process, including the tools and team.
The first session of this new workshop runs from April 8th to the 19th, and is available for registration individually for $499, or you can subscribe to Learn Prime, to get access to this workshop, and all our other workshops, books, and screencasts for just $99/month.
Learn more and register today. I hope to see you in the workshop!
Today we’re happy to announce Learn Prime, a subscription service which gives you access to everything we teach. Your monthly $99 subscription gets you ongoing access to all of our books, screencasts, and even all our in-person and online workshops. Our workshops alone are normally over $1,000 when purchased individually!
In addition to our existing materials, we’ve created a new stream of articles only available to subscribers called Learn Bytes. We’ve already published Bytes on using subdomains in Rails, tricks for finding where a method is defined, and faking out a remote service using rack-test, with much more to come.
Subscribers also receive access to something we (humbly) consider the best resource of all: our team. Got a burning Ruby question? Need help testing something tricky? How about another set of eyes on a pull request? Head to our private Campfire room or send an email, and a thoughtbot developer will help you out.
Our goal is to create more great designers and developers. We hope this new subscription service makes our workshops and other learning materials available to even more people.
We’re are also introducing Prime for Teams. For $1999/month your entire team of up to 25 people can get access to everything provided by Prime. That’s less than the cost of your team’s daily pourovers! And for a limited time, as a special launch discount, the price for Prime for Teams is only $1299 per month!
We hope you’ll join the community of people who have already subscribed to Learn Prime. Find out more at Learn.
I’m very pleased to introduce our new iPhone app for Learn.

We’ve started with the very valuable Trail Maps, guided paths for learning modern development technologies and practices.
The Trail Maps are kept up to date within the app and accessible offline. This allows you to track your learning progress by checking off resources as you read them and validations as you learn.
Remember, our Trail Maps are open sourced on GitHub, so if you think something is a valuable resource, please do contribute.
The app is free on the App Store, so download it today.
I’ll be in Paris next week and we’re sponsoring a social event at MKP Opera on Thursday, February 28th at 7:30pm. RSVP here
I hope to see you there.
I’ll also be holding office hours while in Paris, so if you won’t be able to make it, or your like to get together to discuss technology, design, or business tweet me at @cpytel and we’ll coordinate a time.
We’re pleased to announce that we’re opening an office in Colorado.

We’ll do the same work we do in Boston, San Francisco, and Stockholm: make web (Ruby on Rails) and mobile (iOS) apps for our clients. We’ll also run workshops and have apprentices in our http://apprentice.io program.
Desi McAdam is joining thoughtbot today to lead the new office. We’ve known Desi for a long time and we’ve always been impressed with her development skills, community involvement, and commitment to quality. We’re thrilled to welcome to her to the team.
We’re considering both Boulder and Denver for the physical office space. The cities are close to each other. They both offer great lifestyles, technology companies, and people we’d like to work with. We’re excited to be part of both communities.
Get in touch if you’re interested in hiring or joining our Colorado team.
We’re looking forward to many years of rock climbing, biking, fly fishing, skiing, brewery hopping, and making software in Colorado.
See you there.
